WHAT IS THIS EXCLUSIVE TRAILER ABOUT?

The video includes the most iconic fights from the series as well as key moments in the animation style we know. Some moments include Gohan vs Cell, Gohan in Super Saiyan 2 form and we can also see Frieza vs Goku.

Bandai Namco Entertainment 's official description for their new game is stated this way:

"Developed in Japan by video game developer CyberConnect2, the game tells the legendary story of Dragon Ball Z , taking players on an unforgettable adventure to experience incredible battles and challenging quests while creating lifelong friendships during their crusade to protect Earth from the most fearsome villains. Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot will also present resolutions to many previously unanswered questions in the Dragon Ball Z story through side quests."

The game will feature story and gameplay inspired by the Saiyans, Cell, Frieza and Buu arcs from the world-famous anime. Additionally, the game will include playable characters such as Trunks and Bonyu, a new character designed by series creator Akira Toriyama. Developed and published by Bandai Namco, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot arrives January 17 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. ⏳

DEVELOPED BY CYBERCONNECT2

Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm

If you're not familiar with the CyberConnect2 studio, chances are you're probably not a huge Naruto fan, as they're also the developer behind the fantastic Naruto Ultimate Ninja and Ultimate Ninja Storm series. . 🐱‍👤

And if you didn't know it yet, the entire Goku Shop team is also a fan of Naruto! This allowed us to collaborate with the Manga Zone store, with whom we have established an exceptional partnership. We talk about it in an article dedicated to this Naruto Shop, essential for any good manga fan.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot therefore seems to opt for the same kind of plot as for its other projects, with each chapter designed to resemble an episode of the anime, thanks to a narration in the classic Dragon Ball, narrating the titles of the episodes in beginning of the chapter. Beyond that, if there's one thing CyberConnect2 has proven over the years, it's that it's the master when it comes to an animated spectacle. Honestly, we can't think of a better developer to re-create the most incredible action moments in Dragon Ball Z history.

A MUST-HAVE ACTION RPG!

DBZ Kakarot Travel

Unlike previous Dragon Ball games, Kakarot is a full-fledged action role-playing game, with character-related levels, a huge world to explore, NPCs to talk to, side quests to complete, items to use, consumables to equip, etc... One of the coolest aspects of exploring the world in this new version is the ability to detect energy levels in order to locate points of interest. 📍

Indeed, you will be able to see in the distance and on the map the areas of interest, the NPCs (having small blue auras) and also the enemies based on the story (like Raditz with his red aura) . This is a really neat benefit to the game, one that is faithful to the series and will prove very useful from a gameplay perspective when navigating this enormous world, divided into several zones.

Goku will obviously be the main character that you will play, but you will note that we will also be able to play as Vegeta, Piccolo or even Gohan as a child, with a whole range of support characters to support you during your battles!

NEW COMBAT TECHNIQUES

Dragon Ball Z Kakarot Fight

It's important to note that while Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is an action RPG, it's also not far removed from previous Xenoverse-style 3D fighting games when it comes to combat. The combat system is very similar to previous Dragon Ball games developed by Dimps and Spike, and also somewhat similar to CyberConnect2's Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm games.

We always find our main fighter with the camera locked on the opponent, giving us the freedom to move towards and around the enemy. There is a button for melee attacks , for ki attacks, one to charge the special attack bar, to dodge, to use the super dash, to guard, and if we hold the X button or square pressed, you can obviously use one of the four special moves, like a Kamehameha , a meteor smash, one of those super cool punches they always do in the anime, and much more. 👊

The big difference here is that the combat system is not balanced with respect to PVP, which it tends to forget a little. Dragon ball Z: Kakarot will be a PVE all the way, allowing CyberConnect2 to tip the scales in the opponent's favor from time to time, and make them use special moves that break typical combat rules. In any case, we will be able to relive all the most cult fights of the series!

CHA LA, HEAD CHA LA! 🎵

Goku and Gohan

In addition to having recreated a quality universe, very close to the anime universe, CyberConnect2 used real music from the Dragon Ball saga ! Which is still great news, what a joy to be able to play a Dragon Ball game with the iconic music that rocked our childhood such as “Cha La, Head Cha La” ! 🎶

And yes, you obviously know this awesome song too. A slower variation of this will play as Goku explores the world, but when the action resumes in the fight against Raditz, the full version of the music with vocals will begin to amplify under the action, and we already has goosebumps!

GOKU WILL BE ABLE TO FISH WITH HIS TAIL!

Goku Fishing

The game will also feature new exclusive game modes, including events that did not previously exist in the saga. And speaking of non-canon items, apparently Goku still has his tail ! We think he probably stuffed it somewhere in his gi and then wrapped it around his pelvis... Why? to be able to allow us to fish with it obviously! 🐟

You know what, some of you might think that's stupid, and indeed, it's not common, and it's relatively offbeat. This makes no sense, but above all it shows a desire to bring original and innovative content, in the spirit of the series with the humor and lightness of Goku , and we really think that this is super important for a game like this.

A WIDE CHOICE OF SIDE ACTIVITIES

DBZ Kakarot food

In addition to fishing, Goku seems to be able to engage in several other side activities . And yes, we told you that this new game would be much more RPG focused!

He will be able to fly on his magic cloud to collect Z orbs (a form of currency) and orbs associated with environments (green orbs for green areas 🟢 , blue ones for water areas 🔵 and red ones for areas more desert 🔴 ), they will allow us to unlock passive skills in the skill tree , he will also be able to hunt deer to collect meat, (which can be eaten in order to give a boost to statistics) , and will be able to also extract ore.

If we take a look at the map of the area on the dragon's radar, there are also exclusive areas where he will go hunting dinosaurs. You will also have to go to the local material merchant to make trades, cook etc... We will obviously leave you in suspense as to the recovery of the famous Dragon balls thanks to Bulma's radar . Anyway, you will have understood, this new game has a whole bunch of surprises in store for us!

A RICH AND VAST WORLD

DBZ Kakarot Map

A few furtive passages in the trailers, in the gameplay videos and in the images revealed by Bandai Namco were able to reveal the different parts and aspects of the map. If you fly as high as the map allows you, you will eventually leave the area you are in and land on a world map . 🗺️

In this image we see the village Lucca, where Raditz's saiyan capsule lands, the village of Olive, Goku's house; The Kame house where Awesome Turtle lives, Orange City, later renamed Satan City after the Cell Games (the town where Gohan and Videl go to high school) and Yamcha's hideout, which is interesting because Yamcha's hideout didn't have really no significance in the story of Dragon Ball Z.

It's worth mentioning that other key locations will obviously be present, such as the site of the World Martial Arts Tournament, a location that served as a training base for Vegeta and Goku. And of course, you can go to your favorite places thanks to the magic cloud ! You can also track down the Dragon Balls in order to summon the dragon Shenron! Besides, you can get them yourself on our site!

EXCLUSIVE STORIES

DBZ Kakarot Characters

While it appears that the story of Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot will follow the main plot of DBZ to a "T", it also appears that the developers have left plenty of room for exclusive and original content. In the short E3 demo, we were already able to get a little glimpse of it with Goku reconnecting with Eighter (Android 8), who will send him to destroy some unwanted robots in a side quest. We also know that we will meet exclusive characters, whose existence the saga had never mentioned (as with Bonyu ) ! 😮

The Bandai Namco US Twitter account also tweeted a photo with a note from Akira Toriyama, stating that Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot would include stories that were not told in the manga, which is very vague, but is reveals for us quite interesting. We also hope that the game will deal with the true stories of the characters in the series, in a little more depth. Indeed, it would be quite cool to finally fill this gap that existed in previous games and to finally tell key passages, never before addressed. There are a ton of possibilities, and maybe this could just be a way to fill in random side quests .

For more information on the game, be sure to check back regularly with your favorite Goku Shop! You can also go (re)watch theE3 2019 trailer to wait. Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot will be released on PC, Xbox One and PS4 on January 17, only a few days to wait!
