Dragon Ball Super has indeed just revealed that there is another set of Dragon Balls other than those already present on Earth and Namek - and they are a little different from the ones readers are familiar with. Let's discover without further delay the new features covered in this Volume 69. 📖
THE NEW CRYSTAL BALLS
As you probably already know if you've watched all the episodes of our favorite hero Son Goku, the Dragon Ball series has always focused on the existence of a set of mythical Crystal Balls that can grant three wishes once gathered. 🧞
While Son Goku's quests have allowed him to become stronger throughout the saga, most of his villains have also tried to seize the Dragon Balls. Goku and his allies therefore continually attempted to gather the seven Dragon Balls to restore Earth to normal after it was left in ruins after many epic and devastating battles. 🌏
HOW TO FIND THE CRYSTAL BALLS?
Before discussing these new Dragon Balls, it is appropriate to re-establish the difficulty of finding them. Because yes, the search for the Crystal Balls has always been a challenge in the series. Bulma has also perfected a device that searches for them precisely, so that her friends can simply quickly wish a wish at any time - like restoring the planet Namek.
This device is called the Dragon Radar (called Bleeper in the Ocean Group dub), it is a tracking device designed and built by Bulma to help locate Dragon Balls precisely. This made searching for Crystal Balls more efficient, compared to conventional methods. The Dragon Balls emit a weak electromagnetic pulse , which the Dragon Radar can thus detect. He then points the arrows in the directions of the nearby Dragon Balls. By pressing the button at the top, the view can zoom out and show more and more of the planet. 🕶
THE CRYSTAL BALLS OF PLANET CEREAL
Chapter 69 of Dragon Ball Super tells the story of how the Crystal Balls came to be. During a lesson on Namek, an elder teaches young students that the Dragon Balls were once a reward for daring Namekian warriors who needed the great powers of the Crystal Balls during times of great suffering. Then, a student asks whether or not there are other Dragon Balls besides Namek. It is then explained that wherever Namekians reside, there could be Dragon Balls on that planet. 🔮
Chapter 69 reveals that there remained two non-Sugarian residents of present-day planet Cereal – Granolah and Monaito . Granolah, having been revealed in chapter 68, we even wrote an article in his name, so don't hesitate to read it if you want to know more about him: Granola: Goku's new enemy . Monaito, a former Namekian, reveals that there is a set of Crystal Balls on the planet Cereal. However, they would be a little different from those of Earth or Namek. The Planet Cereal Dragon Balls are smaller and come in pairs. When new Cerelian villain Granolah steals a Crystal Ball to pair with the other, and the dragon that emerges (looking like an axolotl) , he only grants him one wish. 🥇
After this reveal, it became more obvious than ever that there might be more sets of Dragon Balls in other parts of the Dragon Ball universe. After all, the ancient Namekian confirms that their ancestors would have come from another realm and lived on different planets across the universe.
He also confirms that wherever there are Namekians , there is a high possibility that there are also Crystal Balls being created on these undiscovered planets. It seems that the series is setting the stage for potential new discoveries, as perhaps more sets of Dragon Balls will be revealed in future updates and volumes of the Dragon Ball Super manga with different rules than readers had already learned about the current dragon balls! 🐲
WILL THE SAIYANS BE DESTROYED?
In Dragon Ball Super Chapter 69 , we also learn other revelations. Beerus reveals to Vegeta that he is the one behind the Saiyan genocide, sparking a battle like no other.
So the God of Destruction Beerus comes at this point in the story to reveal a shocking fact to Vegeta about the destruction of the Saiyans in Dragon Ball Super, changing a fact that many fans thought was set in stone. Previously, Vegeta was known to come from the lineage of royalty on his eponymous home planet, which was destroyed by Frieza . But it has now been revealed that Beerus was the one who ordered Frieza to blow up Planet Vegeta. 💥
Dragon Ball Super expanded across the intergalactic and interdimensional worlds of the entire Dragon Ball universe, introducing all sorts of deities and absurd power levels, so that Goku can now defeat all of DBZ's villains without transforming. In a new context where these original stories might lose their sense of relevance and impact, writer Akira Toriyama cleverly draws a line in time, revealing that the new character Beerus had ties to the core tradition of anime in its early days. 📖
Beerus mentioned that Frieza was his subordinate and that he had led the mighty planet conqueror in eliminating the Saiyans before, but he never confronted the remaining Saiyans with this fact. He finally does so in Dragon Ball Super Chapter 69, but mainly to provoke Vegeta into attacking him. 💪🏻
Beerus set out to teach the Saiyan Prince techniques that only the God of Destruction could transmit, but Vegeta regretted the Saiyans' barbaric past too much to accept this tutelage. Before Frieza destroyed the Saiyans, they were an integral part of Frieza's army. The Saiyans dominated the planets, killing the local inhabitants so that they could be conquered and sold. 💰
Vegeta therefore finds himself in a constant race to keep up with Goku 's ever-increasing power level, but Vegeta has too dark a past and too damaged a conscience to follow in his sidekick's exact footsteps and thus learn the techniques of the angels. Beerus is blazing a new trail - learning God-like destructive powers - but Vegeta has rejected his past life as a brutal warrior in favor of his new life goals: becoming a better husband and father to Bulma, His wife. 👨👨👧👧
Beerus also warns him that he will never exceed his limits unless Vegeta removes his regrets from his days of conquest, goading him into an attack by revealing who was truly responsible for the Saiyans' annihilation.
“You feel guilty for the sins of all Saiyans. That’s terribly self-centered of you, mortal.” Beerus blurted out to Vegeta.
Beerus was not directly responsible for the destruction of Planet Vegeta, but Frieza still launched his genocide on the Saiyans at Beerus' request. As it was the driving impulse of his original arc in Dragon Ball to kill Frieza, for murdering Vegeta's entire race, it is unlikely that Saiyan will be able to forgive now that he knows the truth. Although Vegeta is not yet powerful enough to take on Beerus, the revelation is enough to provoke him into a new battle, pushing him to another level of power, towards more power and perhaps giving him a whole new vendetta to pursue .
