Whis (ウイス Uisu) is the guiding angel of the God of Destruction of Universe 7, Beerus, he is also his mentor and his main martial arts teacher. Like all angels, he is linked to the service of his referent divinity and rarely leaves Beerus unaccompanied during his various travels.

WHO IS WHIS?
Whis is therefore indeed an angel. He has an older sister, Vados , who trained him for years but eventually stopped. And as stated above, Whis is also popular because he teaches martial arts techniques to his student Beerus. 🥊
APPEARANCE OF WHIS
Whis is a tall, thin humanoid with pale blue skin, white hair, purple eyes, and rather effeminate features. He possesses a long scepter with a precious stone floating above it, and he is usually seen holding it in his right hand. Around its neck is a large light blue ring. 💍
Whis's outfit consists of a brown robe, a black breastplate with the same white and orange diamond decorations as Beerus's, and a blue belt. He also wears black high-heeled shoes with long periwinkle-like toes with white spats. 👢
PERSONALITY OF WHIS
Whis is one of a kind and amazes at first sight. He has a calm, distant and peaceful personality, but he is absent-minded and sometimes effeminate. According to Beerus, Whis is also a terrible singer. Very eccentric, his priorities can often seem excessively insignificant. He remains calm even when his student, Beerus , flies into fits of extreme rage, but can become irritated if Beerus goes too far, (but food will calm him down). 🍬
Very perceptive and carefree, he rarely gets upset and is rarely surprised by anything that does not directly involve Beerus, such as being impressed by Hit's Time-Skip and Goku's Kaio-ken respectively. He is apparently also a very proud teacher, as upon seeing Goku seemingly in full mastery of Ultra Instinct , Whis was delighted that Goku was learning from his lessons. Despite his carefree nature, he is not without fear, as he became very nervous when Zen'o Sama wanted to meet Goku, although this is understandable when the situation involves the Omni-King. 👑
He also became somewhat exasperated by Goku's behavior towards the Grand Minister and Zen'o , even showing bewilderment when Goku gave Zen'o a nickname. He is very well mannered, always speaking and behaving with respect towards everyone around him. He similarly dislikes poor table manners, commenting negatively on his student's lack of attendance at looking like a cat when visiting a planet. 🪐
Even in extreme situations, he does not waver, as he showed when he politely told the Z-Warriors team that the entire solar system would be destroyed in an instant, in an honorific register, while calmly eating a cake. He is also rather considerate, giving Vegeta a better view during Beerus and Goku's fight through his staff and sharing his food with Pilaf's gang. He seems to enjoy the company of others, as evidenced by his regular encounters with Bulma (although this may only be because she treats him to different meals) .
His label only briefly wavered once, when Vegeta refused to participate in the Tournament of Power . Initially, Whis was confused and perplexed like Goku, he was unsure why Vegeta wanted to be present for Bra 's birth and later became visibly annoyed by Vegeta's position, even going so far as to use his magical abilities to literally making Bra come out of Bulma's stomach to change Vegeta's mind. 👶🏻
Much like Beerus, he is obsessed with food, gets overly excited and somewhat undignified when faced with new dishes and can be easily persuaded by niceties. When he reversed time for three minutes, he claims he did so only because Earth had many culinary delights and not because he cared about the billions of lives on Earth. This mentality makes him appear like a glutton. Just like Awesome Turtle, who only gives lessons when he is given inappropriate materials (naughty books), Whis only trains Vegeta or Goku if he gets food in exchange. 🍜
Likewise, it seems that he cares very little to nothing about the countless lives Beerus has ended in his profession as God of Destruction, indicating that while he is not malicious, he is for the less indifferent. Furthermore, he appears to have very little, if any, moral value when it comes to the lives of others. We see this when the Grand Minister declares that everyone will be destroyed, except the angels of the respective universes, and that Whis remained cheerful as always and even laughed in Beerus' face, showing that despite all the missions spent with Beerus, he apparently saw in him only a mission.
Despite this, it seems that it is only a facade and that he still cares about his Universe, because in addition to being proud of the achievements of Goku and Vegeta, his two students, he seems rather involved in the Universe 7 's overall performance in the tournament and shows concern when Goku collapses due to the strain of using his Ultra Instinct form. Additionally, Whis felt ashamed of the chaos and destruction Moro caused in Universe 7, showing that despite his indifference to the angels' laws, he felt bad for the people and planets annihilated by Moro, upon seeing the unauthorized destruction that occurred before his eyes. 💥
WHIS' RELATIONSHIP TOWARDS VEGETA AND GOKU
Although he prefers to avoid meddling in deadly conflicts as per angel law, in Dragon Ball Super: Broly , he protects Bulma and holds back Broly 's rampage by using the Autonomous Ultra Instinct to dodge his attacks after he defeated Golden Frieza. Whis refuses to attack Broly and will quickly retreat when Gogeta arrives, allowing him to deal with the legendary Super Saiyan , thus remaining within the confines of Angel Law since Goku and Vegeta are his students .
So, him holding back Broly could be seen as encouraging Goku and Vegeta 's growth ( as it allowed them to perfect the fusion dance) , and it gave Whis the opportunity to test the Broly SSJ's strength which Goku says rivals that of Beerus. Whis was thus able to search for another potential candidate while keeping Broly busy until Gogeta arrived. His protecting Bulma from Broly was likely influenced by his friendship with Bulma due to her tendency to introduce her to Earth cuisine and her being the wife of his student Vegeta. 💍
WHIS IN THE XENOVERSE SERIES
In the Xenoverse series, Whis is shown to be respectful towards Chronoa and friendly towards Tokitoki, although Beerus jokingly suggests sealing the elder Kai in the Z Sword again to ease his anger over Towa's manipulation of the two. Although he is mostly respectful towards the Supreme Kai of Time, he is shown to be fully aware of his terrible cooking skills, as he stops reaching for a cup of pudding when he realizes that Chronoa made them herself and is quick to criticize her after Beerus becomes enraged after tasting her horrible pudding and is annoyed when she takes his criticism as a compliment, before joining the 2nd Future Warrior to fight Beerus in order to calm him down. 🥊
Like Chronoa, Whis wishes no harm to the egg and decides to train with Beerus and the Future Warrior because he cannot allow Beerus to potentially destroy the egg due to yet another crisis. During his fight with Beerus and the Warrior, he playfully draws his symbol on Beerus' head, forcing the latter to rush to wash it off, allowing Whis to train with the Future Warrior. The fight will calm Beerus enough for him to agree to have the Time Patrol deal with Towa , although he still resents Whis for drawing on his forehead. ✏
He also aids the Time Patrol by transporting Goku to aid the Future Warrior in the battle against Mira, who used the Dragon Fist to remove the egg from Mira 's body, allowing the Future Warrior to destroy Mira without worrying about it. 'egg. Although Whis has no problem traveling through time himself, he considers its use by others outside of the Time Patrol to be a bad thing and tells Goku that they should not linger in Age 852. ⌛
However, he quickly changes his tune when he learns that there is going to be a feast and quickly realizes that this is the reason why Beerus was strangely absent (it is assumed that Beerus did not tell Whis about it for take revenge for having drawn on his head) . He decides to stay to enjoy the food Chronoa summoned to Shenron .
As he jokes that Beerus has sealed Elder Kai, he will hasten to calm Beerus with food to stop him from destroying Elder Kai for making him angry, thus showing that he does not approve of Beerus destroy the God of Creation over a simple petty argument, which would have been inappropriate. Whis also recognizes the potential of the second warrior of the future and offers to train him in the hopes that he can mold him into a candidate for the next God of Destruction who would replace Beerus if he were to die. 💀
In the Dragon Ball Super manga, Whis is shown to care for his brother Merus to the point of visiting their father to inquire about the law of angels regarding what would happen if Merus decided to confront Moro using his full angel power and after learning that this would lead to Merus' annihilation because in doing so he would be violating angel law. Whis uses his position as an angel of Universe 7 to prevent his brother from joining the fight by having him recalled. However, Whis allows Merus to stay on Planet Beerus and observe the conflict between the Galactic Patrol and the Dragon Team and Moro.
WHIS IN DRAGON BALL Z
Saga of the Gods of the Universe
Whis asked Goku to allow him to train with him, Whis agreed on the condition that Goku provides him with tasty food, he also allows Vegeta to accompany him during training. 🍜
Goku watches Vegeta attack Whis in turn, then he attacks once Vegeta is down, using the power of the Super Saiyan God who, although unable to hit Whis, does so. Goku and Vegeta then continue their attack, but it soon ends and Whis reveals that he marked their outfits with his symbol. He then explains the principles of Ultra Instinct to them and points out the flaws in this technique. Beerus then interrupts them, firing an angry ki blast, much to Goku and Vegeta's astonishment.
Shortly after, Whis discovers that he has received a message from Bulma, who informs him of Frieza 's return. He then tells Goku and Vegeta, who teleport to Earth to confront him. 💥
WHIS IN DRAGON BALL SUPER
God of Destruction Beerus Saga
Sometime after Kid Boo's defeat, Beerus woke up and he and Whis visit a planet full of pig-like humanoid aliens who offer Beerus a royal feast l. Whis will observe Beerus who touches and smells his food, while commenting on Beerus' lack of manners at table. 🥞🌭
After Beerus destroyed half the planet, Whis tells Beerus that what he had just done was a bit exaggerated. He then went to a planet to find dinosaur meat for Beerus and asked the leader of the planet's race to give it to him, but Beerus arrived to take control. After Beerus destroys the planet, Beerus tells Whis that he saw a Super Saiyan God in his dreams.
On the way back to his planet, Beerus is still trying to remember the character from his dream. Whis says he has a special surprise for both of them in the fridge. While thinking for a moment, Beerus questions Whis's speed, to which Whis claims to be the fastest being in the universe . When they arrive there, the Oracle Fish is summoned and remembers the Super Saiyan God for Beerus. 🐟
Whis tells Beerus that Frieza was defeated by a Saiyan known as Goku on Namek and transformed into a Super Saiyan . Whis then uses his scepter to locate him and sees that Goku is on King Kai's planet . Beerus seeks to go to Goku and ask if he knows about the Super Saiyan God transformation. He prepares lunch for the two and heads to King Kai's planet which is 26 minutes from his temple. Once there, Goku mistakes Whis for the god of destruction Beerus. 🕵🏻♂️
Goku finally realizes who Beerus really is and starts commenting on his appearance. When the battle between Goku and Beerus begins, Whis watches them fight while eating the food he took with him. After defeating Goku, Whis and Beerus teleport to Earth where Beerus wants to question Vegeta about the Super Saiyan God form.
Upon arriving on Earth, Whis, along with Beerus, is introduced to each guest on Bulma's cruise ship by Bulma herself. Whis savors the delights of Earth before much spirit. Whis nevertheless remains attentive to Beerus, who becomes angry when Trunks splashes him. Beerus calms down when he sees Vegeta making a scene. Whis informs Beerus of a treat called pudding , describing its texture. Whis and Beerus end up asking Majin Boo if he could share his pudding but refuses. Beerus is therefore furious because of this and lashes out at him, then at the Z-Fighters. 🥊
While this altercation takes place, Whis sits passively while continuing to eat. When Beerus is ready to destroy Earth, Whis is given sushi for his journey home, but Goku arrives and asks Beerus to give him more time to summon the Super Saiyan God. the Legendary dragon Shenron then explains the training to become an SSJ God: at the beginning, the Saiyans were wrong because there were only five notable Saiyans at the time. Whis then explained to them that it took six to create a Super Saiyan God . After this, Videl reveals that she is pregnant with Gohan's child. 👶🏻
Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, Trunks, Goten and Videl form a circle to create the Super Saiyan God . Whis is therefore still on Earth at this time when Goku SSJ God and Beerus fight. At one point, Whis gives Vegeta a better view of the fight as he felt his neck hurt. Whis used his staff to project the battle between Goku and Beerus. Mr. Satan then asked Whis to stop the fight twice because he feared they would destroy the universe as he wanted to protect Videl . Whis however states that he couldn't stop their fight. He was even offered a pass to eat anywhere in Satan's city, but he refused.
After Beerus and Goku return to Bulma's ship, Beerus attempts to destroy Earth but falls asleep along the way. Whis thanks Goku for entertaining Beerus and tells him that he is in his debt. Whis takes Beerus home with him. When Beerus wakes up on his way home, Whis notes that Beerus didn't use 100% of his power while fighting Goku , but he said that because he wanted Goku to unleash his full Super Saiyan God power. 👼🏻
Golden Frieza Saga
Whis also visits Bulma from time to time as he passes by Earth when he wants to try discovering new foods. He is also amazed by the tasty foods he tasted. On the way to another restaurant, he meets Vegeta who will ask him to be trained by him. He relents after hearing that Vegeta could bring him the tastiest food in the world. Vegeta will then give him a bowl of ramen to coax him. Whis takes Vegeta in as his martial arts student and trains him for six months. After these six months, Whis returns to Earth to eat with Bulma. Whis is then approached by Goku, who learns that Whis has taken Vegeta under his wing, and that he would like to be his student too. Whis hesitated, as Goku would bother him to practice. When Whis finished eating, Goku joined him despite Chi-Chi's ban. 👩🏻
Training therefore began for Vegeta and Goku, under the guidance of Whis who made them do a little cleaning. Once finished, Whis took the time to train them himself. He put them through intensive training . He also gave Goku a new gi to ingrain the training under his command. Later that day, Whis had a conversation with the Oracle Fish, during which they discussed the training Whis was putting the two Saiyans through that could kill them. The Oracle suggested letting them use their transformations. Whis claims that he did not add any restrictions to the use of these, saying that they decided this on their own, realizing the profits. ✨
Whis eventually watched the fight between Goku and Vegeta and found that their power had increased significantly. Beerus eventually woke up from the noise and saw Goku and Vegeta with Whis. They tell him that Whis brought them to his planet for training and that they only want to get stronger. When Beerus discovered that Whis had been to Earth many times without him, Whis told him that he had only been to Earth to taste the food on Earth. 🍜
Whis ended the fight between Goku and Vegeta and was ordered by Beerus to send the two sidekicks elsewhere so that they could become stronger more quickly. Beerus was still complaining about being hungry, but then Whis repeatedly exclaimed that his staff was currently on duty. Beerus insisted because he is a God of Destruction . So Whis brought Goku and Vegeta back from that place so he could give Beerus more pizza. However, Goku and Vegeta ate the pizza provided for Beerus, who did not fail to chase them into the woods. 🌳
Whis is approached once again by the Oracle Fish. He tells her that Whis received a message some time ago and he should read it urgently. Whis is excited to see a message from Bulma offering him a strawberry parfait. Whis contacted Bulma telepathically to thank her but she asked Goku and Vegeta to return to Earth because Frieza had been resurrected. Whis therefore offers to take the two students to Earth, but time is a problem. ⏳
Goku uses Instant Transmission to reach Earth after Gohan is powered up due to Piccolo's death. Soon after, Beerus and Whis leave for Earth and meet Champa, the brother of Beerus and Vados . When they arrive on Earth, Whis tells Bulma to go get the strawberry parfait she made for him but she asks them to help her take care of Frieza , but Beerus threatens to blow up the planet this time. which made her change her mind. So Goku fights Frieza while Vegeta stands nearby, and Whis points out that they would be able to defeat Frieza by working together, but they could never work together. 🥀
When Goku was seriously injured by his opponent, Whis criticized him for being too relaxed. Vegeta then vowed to kill Frieza in revenge for the explosion of Planet Vegeta , and Whis asked Beerus if he was the one who gave Frieza permission to destroy the Saiyans' home planet, but Beerus ordered him to to shut up. In the end, Frieza blows up the Earth after being unable to win against Vegeta, and Whis teleports himself, along with Beerus, Goku, Gohan, Krillin, Ten Shin Han, Master Roshi, Bulma and Jaco, out of the area. Whis explained to them that Frieza was probably still alive but offered to turn back time three minutes to allow Goku to have another chance to defeat the villain . After explaining this ability, Whis went back and Goku managed to kill Frieza . Whis then attends a feast hosted by the Capsule Corp. 🌮
Universe 6 Saga
Sometime after Goku and Vegeta's fight against Golden Frieza, Whis watches Goku and Vegeta face off. When Vegeta and Goku decide to use the Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan form, Whis suggests a new name for this form, naming it Super Saiyan Blue. Whis reminds Goku and Vegeta that transformations are forbidden, he punishes them by giving them heavy suits. Champa and Vados suddenly appear. Whis is told to go find Beerus, who is sleeping at the moment. Vados claims that she is stronger than Whis, his brother, but he disagrees, telling her that she hasn't trained him in over a thousand years. Whis explains to Vegeta and Goku that there are twelve universes and that a combination of two universes that has thirteen is a twin, almost identical universe. Champa, knowing that the Earthlings of Universe 6 have disappeared due to a war, organizes a tournament in exchange for the Earth of Universe 7. 🌍
Then they all discuss the details of the tournament together. The rules will be the same as those of Tenkaichi Budokai and will take place in five Earth days on the unnamed planet at 10 a.m. If Champa wins, he will use the Crystal Balls to exchange the Earths of the universes. If Beerus wins, he will give him all six Dragon Balls he collected, but Beerus will have to find the last one on his own. Vegeta and Goku join Beerus' team from the start. They also select Piccolo, Boo, and Beerus wants the strongest fighter he's ever faced, which isn't Whis. Beerus will tell him that he is not capable of fighting in the match. Whis then takes Vegeta and Goku to Earth for Bulma to invent a new dragon radar, called the Super Dragon Radar , in order to find the last Super Dragon Ball. 🔮
On the day of the tournament, Whis travels to Earth to reunite Beerus' team and his guests. He uses a cube-shaped spaceship to bring everyone together and travel through space. On the way to the unnamed planet, Vegeta mentions a participant aboard the ship and wonders who he is. He declares that he is the stronger warrior than Beerus ever fought, Monaca . Later, they start playing a game of Shiritori during their trip. When it was Whis' turn to say a word, he said "Juri-Juri". Goku asks what that means, so Whis replies that it's a bird from his planet. 🐦
After 2 hours 45 minutes of travel, they finally reach the destination of the nameless planet . When it's time to take the written exam, Whis informs Goku so he won't be late. Once the time is up, Universe 7 has one fighter less because Boo failed his exam, not even knowing how to write his first name. Whis is a spectator, so he watches the first match between Goku and Universe 6's first choice, Botamo. Goku defeats Botamo by throwing him out of the ring because Goku was unable to do any damage to Botamo. The match continues immediately with Goku and Universe 6's next fighter, Frost. As Goku and Frost begin to fight, Whis and Beerus destroy the rocks coming towards them. He notes that they are not using their full potential. Whis then watches the rest of the tournament, occasionally helping Vados repair the ring. He is also surprised to see Hit freely manipulate time as he can. It is he who draws Beerus' attention to the appearance of Zen'o Sama. After the tournament, with instructions from Beerus, Whis made the wish with the Super Crystal Balls, then directed everyone to Earth. 🌍
WHIS TECHNIQUES
- Autonomous Ultra Instinct : The user can automatically react to any threat without needing to recognize it and defend themselves. Whis is able to turn this ability on and off, including gaining an aura when he has the ability active in Kakarot.
- Immortality: As an Angel, Whis can only be killed if he is "eradicated", which will only happen if he breaks Angel laws. 👼🏻
- Omni-lingual: Whis has the ability to understand and use verbal or non-verbal communication without any prior knowledge of the language. As such, he is fluent in every language in the universe , and can even clearly speak a rudimentary dialect of a primitive race.
- Image Projection: Whis can use his staff to project images from the past. He is seen showing Super Saiyan Goku's fight against Frieza to Beerus.
- Reading the Heart: Whis reveals in a conversation with the Future Warrior that his staff/scepter allows him to read the hearts of almost anyone. ♥
- Survival in the Void: Whis is able to survive unaided, in the vacuum of space.
- Cold Immunity: In Dragon Ball Super: Broly , Whis is shown to be able to endure extreme temperatures and he is also able to travel through the very frigid cosmos without wavering. 🥶
- Matter Manipulation: Used by Whis to board the Capsule Corporation's ship to learn about the ice. He manipulates the glass with his finger, making it disappear and then reappear.
ANECDOTES ABOUT WHIS
- Whis' name comes from the word " whiskey " (ウイスキー).

- Whis is the second character in the series to claim to be the fastest in the universe, the first being Butter of the Ginyu Force. However, in his case, it is probably true since he is Beerus' master. Additionally, in Xenoverse 2 , Whis draws his symbol on Beerus' forehead using his superior speed, which essentially supports Whis' claim.
- Further evidence of this is that he was able to effortlessly dodge Super Saiyan Broly's attacks in the film, although it is implied that he used his mastery of Autonomous Ultra Instinct to do so. TO DO. 🔮
- Like most martial arts masters in the series, Whis has his own symbol , which is worn by Goku and Vegeta after their training under him; however, neither Whis nor his other student, Beerus, wear the symbol on their clothing.
- Whis is one of two beings known to be capable of directly altering or erasing historical events, the other being Chronoa, the Supreme Kai of Time. However, Whis' power is apparently limited (as he can only rewind time three minutes) compared to Chronoa (who is said to be able to erase entire timelines if she wishes) , as he is the god which governs time. ⌚
