Over the course of the entire Dragonball franchise, Goku has grown from a young child to an adult, becoming the great warrior and hero we know. Toriyama 's Japanese franchise largely concerns the maturity of its main protagonist, Son Goku. He went from the stage of an abandoned child to that of a strong character, characterized by his courageous temperament which was created thanks to his many friends who were often former adversaries. 🤺

We followed it from the original Dragon Ball series, to Dragon Ball Z, to the canon Dragon Ball GT then through the films, without forgetting the latest Dragon Ball Super series. Now, we are finally going to answer an underlying question that all fans are asking. How old is Goku in each anime series? To answer this, we're going to take a closer look at how Goku has evolved, both physically, socially, and mentally, throughout each series of the iconic anime franchise. 👶🧑👴

AGE OF GOKU IN DRAGON BALL

Goku Little

When Goku meets the young Bulma, then aged 16, for the first time while she was looking for the Dragon Balls, the young boy reveals to him that he is 11 years old.

After accompanying his new friends Bulma, Oolong and Yamcha to fight against Emperor Pilaf and his henchmen to prevent them from using the crystal balls for evil purposes, Goku spends the rest of his 11th year training at Tortue Géniale alongside Krillin, where he prepared for the 21st world martial arts tournament and was narrowly defeated by Master Roshi disguised as Jackie Chung. 🥋

It then took place 3 years before the 22nd World Martial Arts Tournament during which Goku worked to try to destroy the Red Ribbon Army. Then when the tournament finally came around, he was defeated by Ten Shin Han at the age of 15.

After the tournament, Goku and his friends found themselves fighting against the Demon King Piccolo Daimao. Training under Kami, the Guardian of Earth and Mr. Popo, Goku entered the 23rd World Martial Arts Tournament at the age of 18, where he defeated Piccolo, an opponent who will become one of its most faithful allies in the future. He then marries Chi Chi a little later in the story. 👰

AGE OF GOKU IN DRAGON BALL Z

Goku's true age

At the start of the Dragon Ball Z saga, 5 years have passed since the end of Dragon Ball, Goku is then 23 years old and had a first son with Chichi, named Gohan.

After learning his true Saiyan heritage through his long-lost evil brother, Raditz , Goku will find himself sacrificing his life for Piccolo in order to kill the latter. The arrival of Raditz's superiors (Vegeta and Nappa) will not be long in coming. Meanwhile, the Z Fighters train on Earth to counter them, with Goku also training in the afterlife. He will then be resurrected by his friends using the Dragon Balls.

After his resurrection, Goku still looks like his 23 years old physically but ages chronologically to his 24 years old when he helps his friends fight against Vegeta . 🌏

After defeating Frieza, Goku will spend 3 years training with the Z Warriors to counter the arrival of the androids, which was predicted by Future Trunks . During this time, Goku was therefore 26 years old physically and 27 years old chronologically. Realizing how dire the situation had become, Goku and Gohan trained in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber - a special location in the sky that is impervious to actual temporal changes on Earth - for a full year, now emerging physically and chronologically at the age of 27 for Goku, ready to face Cell during the Cell Games. 💫

After sacrificing himself against Cell to save Earth, Goku was dead for 7 years before being resurrected by Elder Kai to defeat Majin Buu. Although he was still 27 physically, Goku was chronically 34 after Buu's defeat.

After Goku and the series experienced a 10 year time jump for the epilogue, Goku was now 37 and 44 years old chronologically, while Vegeta also pointed out that the aging of Saiyans slows down once they reach their physical peak to fight longer and more efficiently. 🚀

AGE OF GOKU IN DRAGON BALL GT

Age of Goku in Dragon Ball GT

At the end of DBZ, Goku had gone to train with the good reincarnation of Kid Buu, named Uub. Dragon Ball GT begins five years later, at the end of Uub's training. Goku is then physically 42 years old and chronologically 49 years old. 👨‍💼

This proved short-lived, as Emperor Pilaf accidentally used the black star crystal balls to return Goku to the age he first met him - making Goku an 11-year-old child, while retaining the mind of a 49-year-old man. 🔮

It takes about a year for Goku to recover the crystal balls to black stars although he ultimately fails to use them to save Earth. At the destruction of Earth, Goku is now 12 years old physically but psychologically 50 years old. Following this, the series takes a one-year time jump for its culminating story arc, with Goku now physically 13 and psychologically 51.🤡

DBGT features an epilogue and special that takes place approximately a century after Goku's fusion with the Eternal Dragon, and takes place again as an adult in his prime. Although his exact physical age is unknown, this would make him approximately 151 years old psychologically at the end of GT. 👴

And yes, time flies! So if you don't want to see it slip away as quickly as Goku's age, decorate your home with our exclusive Dragon Ball Clock Collection !

AGE OF GOKU IN DRAGON BALL SUPER

age of Goku in Dragon Ball Super

The entirety of the new Dragon Ball Super series takes place in the 10-year time skip between Majin Buu's defeat at the end of Dragon Ball Z and its subsequent epilogue. The Super Saga begins approximately 4 years after the time jump, making Goku physically 31 years old but psychologically 37 years old. 🦾

After the start of the series, Goku and Vegeta will train under the orders of Beerus and Whis for about a year before the Tournament of Power begins and everything that follows in the DBS saga. At the end of the Japanese animated series and the sequel to the animated film Dragon Ball Super: Broly , Goku is physically 32 years old and psychologically 38 years old.

Obviously, there was also a continuation of the events of the Broly saga in the Dragon Ball mangas, but we still do not clearly know how many years have passed to date, Toriyama not having given any further explanations either. more to satisfy us. However, as the events of the Z saga's epilogue still haven't happened, one thing is certain, Goku still hasn't reached 40 years old (physically, anyway). Which means that our favorite hero managed to reach Ultra Instinct mode before he even turned 40!
