Thales (ターレス) is a middle-class Saiyan who was once part of the Saiyan army on behalf of King Vegeta. He then leaves to conquer the planets of the galaxy with his group of henchmen. He is the main antagonist of the Dragon Ball Z: Fratricide Battle film.

APPEARANCE OF THALES:
Thales is the spitting image of Son Goku. In addition to having an identical build and height , the two Saiyans have the same haircut. However, they can differ in two aspects: Thalès indeed has a much darker skin color and he has a few strands of hair styled differently. Despite these details, the two Saiyans are relatively identical in appearance and will often be confused by the other protagonists of the film "the fratricidal fight". It should also be noted that although the two characters appear to be the same age, Thales is slightly older than Son Goku . 🤔
Like other members of his species, Thales wears combat armor. The latter nevertheless has the particularity of being gray and black with purple reflections. The Saiyan is also equipped with a red colored power sensor . Being considered a mid-class Saiyan, this poses a slight inconsistency as detectors of this color are usually reserved for the elite classes. We can also note that Thales wears a long white cape at the very beginning of the film when he is on board his ship. 🛸
Interestingly, the base appearance of his battle armor originally had a different color. Indeed, a poster in Japan in 1990 for the release of the film shows Thales equipped with white combat armor with yellow shoulder pads and blue gauntlets. This looked very similar to Vegeta's armor when he arrived on Earth. 🌎
Thales is a character who was created to be irrevocably the exact opposite of Son Goku . Thanks to him, we can have a vague idea of what Kakarot might have looked like if he hadn't hit his head when he was very small.
PERSONALITY :
Thales is presented as an arrogant, proud and very confident character. The sadistic treatment he inflicts on Gohan during the film reinforces his cruel side and he completely does not care about the fate of his men. Goku is dismayed by his doppelganger's lack of empathy and accuses him of not knowing the difference between good and evil . Thales will later explain that he knows the difference between the two perfectly but that he doesn't care. 👍
Thales is a conqueror of space and his goal is to take over the planets by planting his Tree of Power, which leads to the death of the entire population. This icy-tempered Saiyan has a sadistic side and enjoys seeing others suffer. This is particularly the case when Goku is attacked by his own son in the film.
Apart from these faults, Thales is a very intelligent person and shows respect towards his fellow Saiyans. Indeed, while earning his living by seizing planets, one of Thales' objectives is to rebuild and restore Saiyan civilization. 👌
Thales is proud of his Saiyan heritage just like Vegeta but hates his peers like Kakarot who show compassion towards those weaker than them. Indeed, this goes against the mindset of the Saiyans of Universe 7 during King Vegeta 's reign .
Thanks to video games, we learn some interesting information about Thales' character. Indeed, we learn that the Saiyan had a tendency not to follow the orders of his superiors and to do as he pleased, which ultimately led him to desert the Saiyan army. Thales thus founded his own organization by recruiting mercenaries and thus escaped the destruction of the planet Vegeta. According to reports, it appears that Thales also had the secret goal of raising his own private army with the aim of overthrowing Frieza in the future. 💪
In the film “Le Combat Fratricide”, Thales recognizes Gohan’s potential and then tries to recruit him into his gang. Not knowing the origins of Son Gohan 's mother, Thales is convinced that the boy is a pure Saiyan . The space mercenary would perhaps have had a different approach if he had known of the latter's origins. True to his character, Thales nevertheless does not care at all for the well-being of Son Gohan and just tries to exploit him to achieve his ends while showing brutality.
Goku rejects the brutal methods used by Thales to conquer the planets and the latter then declares Kakarot as a traitor to the Saiyan race.
Having the status of a middle-class warrior and not liking being looked down upon, Thales never sought to join the Saiyan survivors like Vegeta and Nappa. He knew full well that he wouldn't have gotten along with them because of the insubordination he showed during his time in the Saiyan army. This probably explains the arrogance Thales displays when he mocks Goku as low class. 😢
Despite his evil and cruel side , we can also note that Thales shows calm and a certain restraint. In fact, he very often refuses to transform into a giant ape because he is aware of his inability to control himself and thus saves his transformation for urgent situations. He thus approaches his confrontations in a more methodical manner. 💀
It should also be noted that he places too much confidence in the power of his Tree, which will lead to his downfall.
THALES AND THE TREE OF POWER:
During his conquests, Thales learned of the existence of the Tree of Power and its sacred fruits. He then understands that to be able to grow, the seed needs the entire energy of a planet. These fruits grant more power to those who eat them and are normally reserved for divine beings. We can then assume that Thales obtained seeds during his numerous space travels. 🛸
After recruiting his first mercenaries, the Saiyan was able to build a larger spaceship in order to conquer the universe . Thales then traveled throughout the galaxy conquering planets with the help of the Power of the Tree which absorbed all the energy of the living and plant beings that resided there. Over the course of his conquests, the space pirate gained new allies and his power grew as he ate the sacred fruits. 🍅
The goal of Thales and his men was simple: acquire enough power to one day be able to overthrow King Cold and his son Frieza .
THALÈS IN THE FILM “THE FRATRICIDAL FIGHT”:
Thales is looking for a planet on which he could plant a seed from the tree of power with the aim of eating the fruits in order to gain power while taking possession of the planet. ✨
Once on Earth, Thales' men then plant a seed from the Tree in order to drain the planet's energy. The latter being very rich in energy, the Tree grows at a dizzying speed which begins to cause the fauna and flora to wither away. The Z-Team composed of Goku, Piccolo, Tenshinhan, Yamcha, Krillin and Chaozu locates the source of evil and goes to the scene near Thales' ship. Although Chichi is against the idea, Goku still accepts that Gohan accompanies them despite his very young age.
A confrontation then begins between the two opposing camps. Thales thus observes the battle from his ship and very quickly turns his attention to Gohan, especially when the latter manages to defeat one of the mercenaries single-handedly . Goku's evil double then notices the presence of Gohan's monkey tail and then deduces the relationship with Kakarot. Thales then decides to get off his ship to join Son Gohan who was isolated and away from the battlefield. The latter is then disconcerted, believing he sees his father standing in front of him. 🤔
Thales then decides to use his resemblance to Kakarot to try to coax Gohan into asking him to join his team and bring honor to the Saiyan race. Goku's son ultimately refuses the proposal and Piccolo then intervenes to protect him. The Namek is then knocked down by his enemy in a few blows.
When Goku arrives in order to protect his son , Thales decides to use Gohan to fight in his place. Noticing the absence of Goku's monkey tail, the space mercenary chuckles and decides to use Saiyan power in its raw form. Thales then generates a sphere of energy and then creates an artificial moon to finally force Gohan to look up into the sky. The latter does not take long to transform into a giant ape and then begins to attack his father while losing control of himself. The fight ends quickly because to Thales's great surprise, Gohan finally manages to take it upon himself and control himself. Goku then takes the opportunity to cut off his tail, thus returning his son to his human form. 🐵
The other members of the Z-Team having all been defeated, Thales' men attack Goku all together. For his part, Piccolo manages to get up but is put down again by his opponent.
Goku decides to use his Kaioken and thus manages to defeat all of Thales' men in a single blow. This angers the latter who realizes that he has underestimated the power of his opponent. The fight then begins between the two Saiyans. 🤼
Thales eats a sacred fruit and thus increases his strength dramatically and manages to knock Goku to the ground even after the latter uses Kaioken x10 . The Earth Saiyan then tries to generate a Genkidama with the little energy left on the planet. The generated sphere is ridiculously small and is quickly destroyed by Thales who begins to enjoy his victory while consuming another sacred fruit. The strength of the latter is thus increased tenfold again . 💪
In a final effort , Son Goku decides to draw energy from the Tree of Power and manages to generate a powerful Genkidama which he immediately sends to his opponent. Thales and the Tree are then instantly pulverized by the explosion which releases the drained energy. The flora of the planet thus manages to gradually recover and the Earth is saved.
THE MAIN ATTACKS OF THALÈS:

Flight: The ability to fly through the use of ki.
Explosive barrier : the user triggers a powerful explosion of energy around him after charging his ki.
Finger Beam : Thales extends his index finger and fires a beam of energy from the tip of his finger.
Kill Driver: The user generates a circle of electrical energy between the palms of their hands and throws it at opponents.
Hyper Kill Driver: This is the basic Kill Driver technique in a much more powerful version. The energy ring is larger and deals significantly more damage.
Sudden Storm: Thales extends the palm of his right hand forward and unleashes numerous energy shots towards his opponent.
I will dig your grave! : This is one of Thales' favorite techniques. The Saiyan begins by delivering a powerful punch to his opponent in order to propel him into the air. Thales then joins his opponent by inflicting a knee strike on him to finally send him crashing to the ground. The Saiyan then pins his victim's head against the ground using his foot and finishes him off using his "Sudden Storm" technique.
Meteor Break : Thales uses this technique when he wants to finish off his opponent. It is very similar to the previous attack but the Saiyan executes his sequences much more quickly by abusing teleportation. Once his opponent is on the ground, Thales finishes him off with a powerful barrage of purple energy at point blank range which causes a destructive explosion.
Rock Crusher : Thales ducks to avoid his enemy's attack and then counterattacks with a powerful knee strike, which often propels the opponent into the air.
Calamity Blaster : Thales places both hands behind his neck to generate a ball of energy. Once charged, the Saiyan unleashes a powerful purple and white energy blast towards his target.
Power Ball : Thales combines his ki with the planet's atmosphere to generate a white sphere which he then sends into the air. This results in the creation of an artificial moon to allow Thales to transform into a giant ape.
THALÈS AND GOKU: TWIN BROTHERS?
This is the question that launched a huge debate as soon as the first images of Thalès were revealed shortly before the film's release. Are the two Saiyans related ? We will attempt here to clarify this point and put an end to this debate. 🤔
It is true that physically, Thales resembles Son Goku exactly and the two protagonists seem at first glance to belong to the lineage of Bardock . The film “The Tree of Might” whose French translation “ Le Combat Fratricide ” only reinforced this theory while sowing doubt among all fans of the franchise.
The confusion really arose when a Japanese magazine of the time exposed Son Goku's family tree, designating Thales as Kakarot's brother in the same way as Raditz.

Despite these details, it ultimately seems that there is not the slightest blood connection between Goku and Thales. “Combat Fratricide” in French rather refers to a fight between two warriors belonging to the same race. Furthermore, the relationship has never been confirmed by the author of DBZ and we can thus affirm that no, Goku and Thales are not twin brothers. 👎

- Power level: Despite his rank as a middle-class warrior, Thales has an abnormally high power level compared to his peers. In its basic form its level seems to be around 30,000 units but it is difficult to calculate its real power because it continues to increase by several tens of thousands as Thales consumes the fruits of the Sacred Tree. 🍅
- Birth and death: Thales was born on the planet Vegeta in the year 737 and died on Earth in the year 762, killed by Son Goku
